Laura Lee Kinney, md

From the time she was five years old, Dr. Laura Lee Kinney knew she wanted to be a doctor. Growing up in Wilton, Connecticut, that early certainty never wavered. It has guided every chapter of her career since.

A graduate of Washington and Lee University with a Bachelor of Science in Biology, Dr. Kinney earned her medical degree from the Medical University of South Carolina, where she also completed her internship and residency in Internal Medicine. She has now spent more than 27 years practicing medicine in Charleston, a community she is deeply proud to call home.

Internal medicine drew her in for the same reasons it keeps her engaged today: the complexity of conditions that span multiple organ systems, the diagnostic challenge of connecting the dots, and the opportunity to serve as a central coordinator in her patients’ overall care. Her clinical focus on internal medicine and women’s health, combined with a philosophy rooted in long-term relationships and whole-person care, has earned her recognition across the Charleston community.

She was named Best Internist in Charleston by HealthLinks Magazine in 2021, Best Primary Care in Charleston by HealthLinks Magazine in 2025, and was a Finalist for Best Primary Care Provider in Charleston by The Post and Courier in 2025.

After decades of practicing in the traditional healthcare model, Dr. Kinney made a purposeful transition to the MDVIP boutique care model, a change that allowed her to eliminate the barriers that so often stand between physician and patient. Fewer administrative hurdles. More time. More access. More meaningful care.

“Having practiced in this community for many years, I have come to believe that exceptional healthcare is built on lasting relationships, trust, and a deep understanding of our patients’ lives,” Dr. Kinney shares.

Her comprehensive annual wellness program serves as the cornerstone of the patient care experience, providing in-depth health data that informs individualized care plans tailored to each patient’s unique needs and goals. Whether guiding patients through chronic disease management or preventive health, she brings the same belief to every visit: that the best medicine lives at the intersection of scientific expertise and genuine human connection.

When she’s not caring for patients, Dr. Kinney enjoys spending time with her husband and children, traveling, and playing golf.
